Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore in the state of Karnataka, India to Krishnaraj and Vrinda Rai.
Aishwarya Rai worked in Mani Ratnam's Tamil language film, Iruvar. She was introduced to Bollywood in the film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya; the film was unsucess at the box office. She did another Tamil-language film, Jeans. It was a critical success. Thus, she was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress Award South for Jeans.
Aishwarya then moved to Bollywood and did films Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Taal. Her performance in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was highly appreciated. She was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in the film. Taal was also commercially successful film.She stablised her as one of the best actress in Bollywood. She was engagged with bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan son fo Amitabh Bachchan. They got married at 20 April 2007.
